A fully operational windmill

The windmill in the Open Air Museum of Bad Zwischenahn is a two-storey gallery cap windmill (Dutch).

It dates back to the year 1811, and was formerly erected in neighboring Westerstede.

After having changed ownership several times, its last location was at Hüllstede, close to Westerstede. However, as it was about to fall apart after its closedown in 1958, it had been rebuilt at the Open Air Museum in Bad Zwischenahn.

The mill shows a functioning grinding process of whole grains as well as a pan grinder, which is used for producing oil.

The wings are 11.20 meters long, and the total height of the mill is 21 meters.
